Call for Papers SCME 2025
The 8th Symposium on Conceptual Modeling Education (SCME 2025) is aimed at providing a forum for discussing (1) the education and teaching of aspects related to conceptual modeling, (2) methods and tools for developing and communicating conceptual modeling techniques for transforming conceptual models into effective implementations, and (3) case studies and experience of interesting projects on conceptual modelling education.
The Symposium invites submissions from the communities of databases, information systems, software engineering, web information systems, business process modeling, enterprise content management systems, engineering, and related areas, such as ontology-based data access. Topics of interest include all those that discuss the teaching and learning of any conceptual modeling topic, as listed in the Call for Papers of ER 2025.
We solicit submission of papers that describe methods of teaching and educating conceptual modeling to both the research and industry communities, including papers with educational impact that solve conceptual modeling problems in research and industry. Papers describing tools for assisting education in conceptual modeling and showing the results achieved are also welcome.
The advent of generative AI is affecting learning and teaching across disciplines. We invite contributions reflecting the use of LLMs in the context of conceptual modeling education, including from the perspective of learning and teaching.
Important Dates
- Abstract submission: August 10, 2025
- Paper submission deadline: August 17, 2025

Submission Guidelines
The Symposium solicits the following types of submissions (page lengths in CEUR, 1-column format, excluding references):
- Full research papers (12 pages) present novel and innovative research contributions (new methods, tools, analytical studies, literature reviews, case studies, experience reports) in the field of conceptual modeling education. The work is not necessarily mature or fully evaluated but includes interesting early results or holds promise for high future impact.
- Position papers (6 pages) have a particular focus on the future of conceptual modeling education. Submissions may present novel projects that are in an early stage, propose new ideas or anticipate new challenges and opportunities.
- Requests for suggestions papers (4 pages) describe conceptual modeling teaching and/or learning problems and request suggestions from the community on how to address them. These submissions may trigger a working session or a panel during the conference.
All submissions must conform to CEUR-ART 1-column format. Length limits include all text, figures, references and appendices. Information about the CEUR-ART format can be found at https://ceur-ws.org/HOWTOSUBMIT.html (Scroll to section: "CEUR-ART style files for papers").
The results described must be unpublished and must not be under review elsewhere. Papers should be submitted in PDF format. Three to five keywords characterizing the paper should be provided at the end of the abstract.
All submissions should be submitted through EasyChair at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=er2025. Please select the “ER 2025 Symposium on Conceptual Modeling Education” track.
